Hello everyone, as I promised, I have finally started posting a full game tutorial series, trying to cover all the subjects of creating a full game using AndEngine. In the last article, you will be able to download the full game project source code.
Some information about this tutorial:
Using engine version: latest GLES2 Anchor Center branch.
Game type: platform jumping game.
Extensions used: Physics Box2D.
In this article, I will demonstrate how to create a cool 2D platform jumping style game. In this game the player will have to jump between tiles to collect coins, avoid obstacles and try not to die
I will cover following subjects:
Advanced Scene management.
Creating a menu.
Using music and sounds.
Creating game scene, HUD, controller, player.
Loading level data from XML files.
Handling player jumping, collecting coins, game over events (die etc)
Displaying level complete window.
Saving scores.
In the following tutorials, I will assume that you already know the basics of AndEngine (If not please refer to my previous articles, covering the more important concepts) also I assume that you have already downloaded and installed AndEngine and Physics Box2D extension, if not check this tutorial on how to setup engine!
Create a new android project in your eclipse project explorer, and create a new blank class for our game activity, just like in the image below:
Now we will have to link the previously downloaded AndEngine and AndEngine Physics Box2D Extension project, to do this, right click on your game project, select properties - > Android, now in the "library" window, add those two projects.
